An IP address is a unique address that identifies a device on the internet or a local network. IP stands for "Internet Protocol," which is the set of rules governing the format of data sent via the internet or local network.
Types of Classful Address
- Class A: it is designed to support extremely large network with more than 16 million host addresses available. Class A IP address use only the first octet to indicate the network address and the remaining 3 octets provide for host addresses.
- Class B: it is designed to support the needs of moderate to large sized networks. Class B IP address use the first two octet to indicate the network address and the remaining 2 octets provide for host addresses.
- Class C: supports small networks in which the first 3 octet to indicate network address and one octet for host address.
- Class D : addresses are reserved for multicasting (a sort of broadcasting, but in a limited area, and only to hosts using the same Class D address). There is nothing Called as network ID and Host ID in Class D.
- Class E: These addresses are reserved for future or experimental use. There is nothing called network ID and Host ID in Class E.
